Happy New Year and welcome to the January edition of Conference Connection.
While the New Year is a time to celebrate, the recent earthquake and tsunami in South Asia has had a profound effect on the yoga community around the world.
As a memoriam to tsunami victims, we are opening Sally Kempton's closing meditation at the upcoming San Francisco Conference to the public, free of charge.
We have also contacted the Red Cross and will be accepting donations at the conference which will go directly to the American Red Cross's disaster relief efforts.
However, it should also be noted that many Americans, not just the yoga community, are making a profound difference. As of January 7, almost three in ten Americans say they have donated, according to an Associated Press poll.

Desiree Rumbaugh took her first yoga class two decades ago. She remembers having a strong feeling of recognition in her body and mind. She grew up with the exhilaration of dancing and performance and even spiritual dancing, but this was something different. The desire for connection to the soul, to the true self was palpable. This desire led her to study within the Iyengar system and eventually on to becoming a student of John Friend and the Anusara method.
She credits her 17 years of yoga practice and the inner strength it has given her, with helping to find her way back into the "flow of life" after the tragic and sudden loss of her 20 year old son in 2003. Anusara's philosophy of "looking for the good" in each situation, in each moment, raising our own personal vibration, affecting the world, has been a light for her to move toward in her healing process.
Desiree's expression of yoga is always playful and enthusiastic. She believes that yoga should be fun as well as deep and introspective. A sense of humor is not only important, it is essential to survival on this planet. She is the co-owner of Arizona Yoga in Scottsdale and is now enjoying traveling around the world, meeting new people each week.
"The only reason we are here is to bring light and love to each other's lives."
Click here for details of her workshops at both the San Francisco and Grand Geneva conferences.
