Welcome to the July edition of our Conference Connection. Did you know that by attending our conferences,
you're not only practicing yoga, you're practicing good karma?
Many of our conferences provide a forum for charitable organizations to showcase their contributions.
This year's Estes Park conference is no exception! Read below to learn more about three unique charities.
Of course, there are many ways to volunteer in every community. Here are a couple web-based organizations that can help you find opportunities that match any area of interest.
www.volunteermatch.org and
http://www.idealist.org.
Also, this month's Teacher Spotlight features Colorado's own Richard Freeman,
one of the country's most well-respected Ashtanga yoga teachers.
Lastly, we've just added a new audio clip available to all conference alumni!

YouthAIDS
YouthAIDS is a revolutionary action-based initiative of the nonprofit organization, Population Services International (PSI), working in over 70 countries to educate and protect young people from HIV/AIDS.
Through theater, media, music, fashion and sports, YouthAIDS is able to reach youth with life saving messages.
Its global programs target low income populations with education, products and services which lead to healthier lifestyles.
YouthAIDS hopeful messages encourage youth to take responsibility for the health of their generation and make life saving decisions.
Yoga Journal will donate 70 percent of the total proceeds from ticket sales from the Saturday night, October 1, benefit concert with Ben Taylor at Estes Park.
Additionally, Yoga Journal will make a matching donation of 50% of the net proceeds. Tickets for $15 are available at the door the night of the concert.
Lunafest
Join us for the 5th Anniversary of LUNAFESTTM, a festival of short films, by,
for and about women brought to you by LUNA®, the Whole Nutrition Bar for WomenTM!
These films embody a wide range of topics and include subjects such as women's health, body image, sexuality, spirituality, sports, women's relationships, cultural diversity, breaking barriers and the environment.
Celebrate the female life, body and spirit through film Friday evening, September 30, at 7:00PM, at our Estes Park Conference.
Tickets for $10 are available at the door. All proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Fund.
Satya Jewelry Youth Yoga
Conference sponsor Satya Jewelry will be coordinating a large raffle throughout the week to benefit the Satya Jewelry Youth Yoga Scholarship Fund.
The vision of this fund is to promote opportunities for children to experience yoga and healthy living through need-based scholarships throughout the country.
This fund has provided scholarships to "Teen Yoga Camps" at Sivananda Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, NY and Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.
Satya has also started an after school yoga program at Bronx Collective, an inner city pilot magnet high school teaching with a holistic approach and offering a fully accredited Yoga PE class.
Internationally, Satya supports the "Happy Sparrow School", a pre-school in He, Vietnam founded by Thich Nhat Hahn’s Root Monestary through the Unified Buddhist Church.
Estes Park Conference
Our 10th annual conference in Estes Park is sold out with the exception of some of the Thursday All-Day Intensives, the Friday evening Krishna Das Concert,
and the YouthAIDS benefit concert with Ben Taylor, sponsored by be present.
Unfortunately, the Iyengar Intensive has been sold out for quite some time; however there are still opportunities at the conference to listen and learn from BKS Iyengar.
Tickets for satellite feeds of Mr. Iyengar's Opening Keynote and Conversation are still available.
If you are unable to attend our Estes Park conference but would still like to have the opportunity to hear BKS Iyengar live, he will be touring the U.S. immediately following Estes Park.
Visit www.lightonlife.org for complete tour details (site still being updated at press time).
For those of you who are attending Estes Park, the message board is open for ride sharing and room sharing options.

Editor's Note:
Richard will be teaching at the upcoming Estes Park 2005 conference, as well as at our 2006 Boston conference.
Although the Estes Park Main Conference is sold out, there is limited space available for Richard's All-Day Intensive, Alignment as Mudra: Patterns Around the Central Axis.
You can also learn more about Richard and his studio on his website at www.yogaworkshop.com.
It's been rumored that Richard Freeman is from another planet, and his close friends and family won't confirm or deny it.
The theory stems from his unique, sometimes mesmerizing, teaching style which is laced with metaphor and humor, and which goes deeply into the subject of yoga.
But it might also arise from the ease with which he can move in and out of yoga postures, while explaining minute subtleties of movement.
Alien or not, all we know for sure is that Richard has been a student of yoga since 1968. He spent nearly nine years in Asia studying various traditions which he incorporates into the Ashtanga yoga practice taught by his principal teacher, K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. His background includes Zen and Vipassana Buddhist practice,
Bhakti and traditional Hatha Yoga in India, Sufism in Iran and, starting in 1974, an in-depth study of Iyengar yoga.
He holds an MA in philosophy and is an avid student of both Western and Eastern philosophy, as well as Sanskrit.
His ability to juxtapose various viewpoints, without losing the depth and integrity of each, has helped Richard develop a unique, teaching style which emphasizes the Internal Form of Ashtanga Yoga.
His tapes and CD's include "Yoga Breathing", (a beginner's guide to pranayama) "Yoga Matrix" (a study of yoga philosophy),
"Primary" and "Intermediate Series" asana classes, as well as "Studio Talks".
He lives with his family in Boulder, Colorado where he is the director of the Yoga Workshop.
