Conference Updates

Both the Iyengar Intensive and Main Conference at Estes Park are sold out. There is still limited space available for the Thursday All-Day Intensives.

Tickets are still available for special events including the Benefit Concert for YouthAIDS with the Ben Taylor Band. Ben Taylor is the son of two famous musicians-Carly Simon and James Taylor-and he's quickly becoming one himself with the debut of his CD Famous Among the Barns and an expected follow-up called Another Run Around the Sun. He also has a strong yoga practice and a fierce commitment to social activism. His unique sound mixes in pop, folk, funk and a little rock 'n roll.

Other special events include kirtan concert with Krishna Das and Keynote and Conversation with B.K.S. Iyengar--satellite space available only).

The Estes Park message board is active with attendees looking to ride and roomshare. Housing is close to being sold out, so book your room or log on to share a room as soon as possible.

Taking Your Yoga on the Road

If you're traveling this summer and want to keep practicing, here are some quick tips to help you find a yoga studio wherever you're going.

Before leaving, you can find a directory listing of studios online from many different sources. Yoga Journal's online directory features studios in most major cities; you'll certainly find the style you're looking for. Another very useful resource is the Yoga Alliance website. The Yoga Alliance Registry contains both schools and individual teachers that have met their criteria of standards.

Finally, because yoga is so popular, many hotel concierges can direct you to a studio or local yoga location.

Teacher Spotlight

Baron Baptiste

Editor's Note: Baron will be teaching at the upcoming Estes Park 2005 conference, as well as all of our 2006 conferences. Although the Estes Park Main Conference is sold out, there is limited space available for Baron's All-Day Intensive, Personal Revolution: The 12 Laws of Transformation in Asana and Vinyasa.

Through dedicated study in India and America that began at the early age of 12, Baron has developed a yoga practice without boundaries yet has a very practical dimension for everyday life. Baron teaches thousands of people of all abilities and all walks of life -- kids, parents, NFL athletes, people struggling to control their weight, over-stressed, high achiever Type-A personalities, those struggling with addiction, and Hollywood celebrities. Baron is a father of three children. He does not consider himself to be either a master or guru; he simply prefers to refer to himself as "my kid's dad."

Baron is the son of two of America's yoga pioneers and is the third generation in his family to share Yoga in America. He has trained extensively in classical yoga traditions, as well as hatha yoga, in the tradion of Krishnamacharya, as well as Iyengar, Ashtanga and Bikram styles of yoga and integrated this wealth of experience into an amazing process, which is accessible to all that desire to bring the essence of yoga to their yoga practice. Baron has shared his Power Vinyasa Yoga with millions of Americans on his popular PBS Pledge Special "Transform Your Life with Baron Baptiste." He has been featured on The Today Show, Regis and Kelly, CNN, and the BBC. Baron is the author of Journey Into Power - How to Sculpt Your Ideal Body, Free Your True Self, and Transform Your Life with Yoga, and 40 Days To Personal Revolution, as well as My Daddy Is A Pretzel, Yoga for Kids and Parents.
