Welcome to the October edition of our Conference Connection. This month we'll recap the recent Estes Park conference,
link to a delicious Hunan hot & sour soup recipe from our Editorial Director, Kathryn Arnold, offer conference alumni specials and more.
Additionally, this month's featured instructor, Seane Corn, shares some little known 'non-yoga' related facts about herself.
Including how this Jersey girl first worked at Yoga Works stuffing envelopes for free classes to becoming the
national yoga ambassador for YouthAIDS.
Speaking of YouthAIDS, we're extremely proud to announce that the benefit concert with Ben and Sally Taylor at the Estes Park conference raised $14,000 for YouthAIDS.
Thank you to all who made the event such a success!
Finally, don't forget the Early Bird discount for the 2006 San Francisco Conference ends November 18th.

Boston Conference
Our second Conference in Boston will be April 7-10, 2006 in the heart of downtown Boston at the Sheraton Boston.
Registration will open the first week in December 2005.
This year's 10th annual Estes Park Conference was an event to remember! With over 2,000 attendees and an amazing set of presenters, including the honoroable Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, it was a memorable week of yogic inspiration. The weather was beautiful and the elk were in full force, bugling beneath the starry skies.
In addition to the symphony of animals,
our attendees enjoyed outstanding performances by both Ben Taylor and Krishna Das as well as an inspirational conversation between Annette Bening and Sri B.K.S. Iyengar. For the fourth year in a row,
Yoga Journal hosted LUNAFEST which featured works made specifically for, by,
and about women, bringing in $1000 which was donated to the Breast Cancer Fund! In all, the conference was incredible, thanks to all who attended this week-long event.
Conference Blog
The Estes Park conference blog is still active and includes briefs and images from the Iyengar and main conference classes, as well as streaming audio and video of the Q&A with Sri B.K.S. Iyengar and Annette Bening.

Hunan Hot & Sour Soup
A popular appetizer in Chinese restaurants, hot & sour soup makes a great meal in itself with the addition of peas, corn, carrots, cabbage, and meaty shiitake mushrooms.

Editor's Note: Seane will be teaching at all three 2006 Yoga Journal Conferences. Click here to see her
San Francisco classes.
Raised in New Jersey by very young parents, she and her two brothers grew up in a very close and comfortable household. They were not brought up with any religion because of her mother's strict Jewish upbringing.
Instead, they put a Jewish star on top of the Christmas tree and were given the opportunity to decide for themselves what, if any, spiritual practice they wanted to adopt.
They were happy being "nothing" at that time.
Some little known non-yoga related facts about Seane:
- She was Pompton Lakes High School's "Most Popular Girl" in 1984. She was also voted "Class Flirt", which might explain her popularity!
- She moved to NYC as soon as she graduated high school. She studied acting.
- She worked in various trendy nightclubs as a bartender and door person including Limelight, Cat Club, MK and Peggy Sue's.
- One of her jobs was working as a bartender in an all male gay sex club.
Her favorite customers were Danny the Wonder Pony and a cross dresser who favored gray wigs, housedresses and sensible shoes.
- She was a vintage motorcycle enthusiast and owned (actually still does) a 1970 650cc Triumph motorcycle.
- She was a recurring character for one year on a soap opera called Guiding Light. She played Janet, a "tough waitress with a heart of gold". It was the same year she got into yoga.
She stopped acting soon after yoga sunk its fateful claws in her.
- She has a scar through her right eyebrow. She crawled into something sharp at 6 months old and needed stitches. She was self-conscious about it when she was young.
- She and her boyfriend Al Corley have been together for five years. He has three teen-age children and she has three cats.
She feels blessed to have them all as a part of her life.
- She loves to shop and she has a special fondness for pocketbooks.
She met Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1984, a meeting that would ultimately change her life and destiny.
She worked for David when he owned a small East Village cafe called Life.
In 1987 they got into yoga and their transformation was evident in their happiness.
She was inspired by the noticeable changes in their attitude and behaviors and began practicing yoga herself.
She liked it, she felt good, but it didn't seem to have the life-altering effect that she witnessed in David and Sharon...
at least not at first. In time, she stopped drinking, changed her diet and quit smoking.
She began to get more focused and interested in life outside of her own.
About four years into the practice of yoga, she began to notice true changes in her perceptions and beliefs.
The yoga, as it always seems to do, worked its magic on her.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1992 and took a job behind the desk at Yoga Works in Santa Monica stuffing envelopes in exchange for free classes.
They hired her part time, then full time. She took the teacher's training and began teaching publicly in 1994.
As an important and necessary extension of her yoga practice, she began doing social and political outreach as a member of the National Organization for Women and the Women's Action Coalition in the early 1990's.
Today she concentrates her energy on working with high-risk children and was named the national yoga ambassador for YouthAIDS.
She recently spearheaded the Off the Mat, Into the World awareness campaign.
It has been a successful project raising thousands of dollars for children with HIV/AIDS.
She believes that because she was given spiritual freedom as a child, she was able to be open-minded and curious in her pursuit of mystical understanding.
She no longer perceives that there is "nothing"; instead she believes in a "no-thing" and that understanding has changed her life and fills her heart with joy.
